Autism Podcasts
Few issues come with more emotional freight than whether to create a special-needs trust — monies put aside for your disabled child’s adulthood, when a parent is no longer around. We’re wrestling with the many, many, many pros, cons, and details of creating such a trust for Alex. In this first podcast discussing trusts, we talk about how we feel that such a fund may well be necessary for his future. In their series of autism podcasts Jill and Jeff Stimpson discuss special-needs parenting.

Bernard Rimland, 78, was called father of modern autism research

From: Lee Grossman, President, Autism Society of America
Date: November 21, 2006

It is with great and profound sadness that I must inform you that Dr. Bernard Rimland passed away this morning. From the information we have received, it appears that the funeral will be held tomorrow in a private ceremony and, at this time, there are no other plans scheduled.

Dr. Rimland was a hero to the Autism Community and his legacy will live on through the work of the Autism Research Institute, the Autism Society of America and the good work of others. No one has done more for Autism than our founder, Bernie, and all in the Autism Community have been positively touched and have benefited through his decades of passion and dedication
to our cause.

Bernie and I became friends in 1992 shortly after my son was diagnosed. He was always an inspiration and mentor to me and my family will always be grateful for the impact he has had on our lives. It is comforting to know, that so many others share such wonderful and memorable thoughts of him and how important he was to all of us.

Please join with me and my family as we extend our condolences to his
wife, Gloria, his children and those that were closest to him
