Wilmette lawyer, autism activist killed. Liz Birt served as an attorney for the Committee on Government Reform in the U.S. House of Representatives and co-authored a 2003 congressional report titled "Mercury in Medicines: Are We Taking Unnecessary Risks?" She founded Medical Interventions for Autism, a nonprofit organization to fund medical research into the causes and potential treatments for autism. Editor's Note: Liz was a tireless fighter in the autism community; she will be greatly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to her friends and family.

Wendolyn Markcrow, 67, of Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, just west of London, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility after the death in March of her third son, Patrick, 36, who was autistic and also had behavioural difficulties.
