2002
Autism Rally
Washington, D.C.
(From Unlocking Autism)
On
Sunday, April 21, 2002, thousands of people from across the USA
will gather in Washington, DC for The Power of ONE! I.D.E.A. National
Autism Awareness Rally. In a continued effort to bring the issues
of autism to the forefront of national dialogue, on Friday, April
19th, 2002, Unlocking Autism will be hosting a brief political
training session regarding current autism issues before Congress
and then attendees will go to previously scheduled appointments
to meet with politicians and staff on Capitol Hill.
The first step in bringing about change is to let the leaders
of your state and nation know who you are, what your needs are
and why you need their help. A relationship through phone calls
or emails is essential to establish a rapport and open the door
to a collaborative working relationship. For this reason, we will
expect you to contact your representatives in advance. We will
provide you with the tools you need to make this process easier.
The
meetings you attend on Friday, April 19th, will have a far greater
impact if they know who you are, when to expect you in their office
and the purpose of the meeting.
Your
registration fee of $35.00 will include a pre-registration packet
mailed to your home that will include: a T-shirt, guidelines for
contacting political offices and scheduling meetings, locations
to meet others from your state, a list of all representatives
from your state, a summary of issues that are pertinent to the
autism community right now, and a detailed map and directories
of Capitol Hill offices.
Help us help everyone in the autism community by participating
in this exciting event! To register, please visit our website
